Power of Words

Proverbs 18:21 states “the tongue has the power of life and death”. What a strong statement! People don’t often pay close enough attention to the words that come out of their mouths, but they are powerful and can determine what happens in our lives. Words can literally speak life or death into a situation.

For example, I often hear people use the words “I’m stupid”, “I can never change” and “I guess I will be like this forever”. As long as people think negative thoughts, their outcome will more than likely be negative. If all people can imagine, or fill their heads with is negativity, then negativity is what will happen.

However, if people can make the bold and courageous step to being positive and realistic, they will likely get favourable results. If people start to say things like “I believe I can do this”, “I’m brave and will be able to make the changes I need to make”, or “I’m worth it”, dramatic positive changes start happening. I have seen it again and again.

If you are stuck in negativity, I encourage you to start changing your thought patterns. I challenge you to start replacing the negative thoughts with positive thoughts, even if it feels a bit awkward at first. Say them anyway, and watch what happens. You will eventually believe these statements, and see positive changes in your circumstances.

This may sound too simple and easy to be true, and the good news is that you are right! That’s what makes it so beautiful. God doesn’t want us to live defeated lives; He wants us to live victoriously. If you can identify with this in any way, and would like help making these positive changes, give me a call. I would be happy to help!
